The magnetocrystalline anisotropy and magnetostriction behavior of the rare-earth-cobalt intermetallics LuxTm2-xCo17 and YxDy2-xCo17 X 0,23,43,2 has been determined from measurements performed on large single crystals. Magnetization measurements were performed with a vibrating sample magnetometer and the magnetostriction was measured by standard strain gage techniques. Measurements were made from 77K to 500K in magnetic fields to 12,000 Oe.
