Abstract:

The optimum command and control structure of the Army National Guard ARNG is a subject of much debate within the military establishment. The ARNG is currently programmed for an important role in future mobilizations as well as being in the vanguard of state forces in protection of life and property and preservation of the peace, order and public safety. The paper addresses the current command and control structure and its effectiveness in maintaining strength in an all volunteer environment and meeting required readiness objectives. Attention is also directed toward possible improvements in command and control policies for making the ARNG a more viable force.
