The study deals with what is called the job component method of establishing compensation rates. This method is predicated upon the use of a structured job analysis procedure that provides the basis for quantifying various components of jobs, and the subsequent use of such data as the direct basis for deriving an index of the compensation value of any given job in relation to the compensation rates for a large and varied sample of jobs. The basic job analysis questionnaire used in the study was the Position Analysis Questionnaire PAQ Form B. On the basis of a principal components analysis of PAQ data for a large sample of jobs, a number of principal components called job dimensions were identified. Scores on these dimensions, and the ratings on the original individual elements of the PAQ, were used in a multiple regression procedure for predicting the actual compensation rates of the jobs in the sample.
