Abstract:

This project was established to study the relevance of linear predictive coding LPC estimation techniques for the development of a practical, real-time system for transmitting digitized voice signals. These techniques had been shown to provide excellent quality transmission at modest bit rates when simulated on large-scale digital computers. The goal was to determine how they can be used in packet communication systems with smaller computers. The report discusses the following topics Pitch-synchronous analysis and synthesis techniques Time-domain pitch extraction Timing requirements for high quality reproduction LPC synthesizer excitation Asynchronous transmission of LPC parameters.
