Abstract:
The report describes a new version of the Airport Vicinity Air Pollution Model AVAP Model developed by the Energy and Environmental Systems Division of Argonne National Laboratory. The new AVAP Model features a simplified and generalized input structure as well as a built-in airport emissions computational package. Application and validation of the model have been carried out using the airport activity and air quality data collected at Washington National Airport. A detailed account of this effort is given. The present report also includes an analysis of the impact on air quality in the vicinity of Washington National Airport of airport-related pollutant emissions using the AVAP Model. The air quality impact is evaluated by comparing the computed air quality concentrations with the appropriate Federal Air Quality Standards for a variety of combinations of airport activity and meteorological conditions.
