Abstract:
The report documents the results of Phase I of a program whose object is to quantify the explosion hazards associated with spills of large quantities of hazardous material such as liquified natural gas LNG, liquified petroleum gas LPG, or ethylene. The principal results are 1 a phenomenological description of a spill, 2 an examination of the detonation properties of methane, 3 a qualitative theory of non-ideal explosions, and 4 a plan for Phase II of the study.
