Abstract:

The Soviet automobile industry is growing at a record pace. Its success is due primarily to the proper orchestration of the various other branches of the industrial system which feed it. Although the steel industry plays a principal role in the production of automobiles, trucks, and buses, there are numerous other light- and heavy-industries which are critical, as well. Automation is of the utmost importance and is being given special attention. The goal for 1975, the final year of the present Five-Year Plan, is the production of 2.1 million vehicles.
