The behavior of both uncoated and coated fiber reinforced composite substrate systems subjected to repeated impingements of liquid droplets was investigated. The system studied consisted of 1 an uncoated fiber reinforced composite, and 2 a fiber reinforced composite covered by a single layer of homogeneous coating of arbitrary thickness. Employing the fatigue theorems established for the rain erosion of homogeneous materials, algebraic equations were derived for both systems 1 and 2 WHICH DESCRIBE THE INCUBATION PERIOD, RATE OF MASS REMOVAL AND THE TOTAL MASS LOSS.
