Abstract:
Remote sensing of subtropical coastal environments is examined with particular reference to Natal, South Africa. Vertical color infrared CIR imagery at a scale of 125,000 with 60 forward overlap forms the basis for analysis, supported by similar panchromatic coverage and hand-held oblique panchromatic and CIR imagery. The CIR imagery used in this study contributes significantly to the understanding of the physical, biological, and human components of the Natal coastal environment and, by extension, to environemntal analysis of 2000 km of similar coastline from central Mozambique to eastern Cape Province.
