Abstract:

A device is described in which a SHF-modulated laser beam is modulated using a lithium niobate crystal and demodulated by use of a photoelectric multiplier photocathode. The modulator and demodulator are located in the same coaxial cavity resonator, in externally applied electrical and magnetic fields the light beam passing through the modulator is reflected from a reflector mounted on a micrometer scale and a mirror to the photocathode. The phase difference between the signal received and the reference signal the electrical field is measured with a high degree of accuracy at the light flux minima registered on an oscillograph. Advantages and disadvantages of this method, compared with those of demodulation in a device identical to the modulator are discussed.
