Laboratory investigations and wide trials under natural conditions of diethyltoluamide synthesized on the basis of petroleum metaxylole as compared to diethyltoluamide synthesized on the basis of coal metaxylole demonstrated that these substances were similar in toxicity. Local irritation effect on the skin and mucous membranes of warm-blooded animals and man were demonstrated. Changes of the initial raw materials were not reflected in the toxic properties of this repellent.
