Abstract:
Electromuscular incapacitation is a promising intermediate force capability, which existsbetween presence and lethal effects, to control of threatening individuals in dynamic situationswhere other measures have failed to render the situation safe. The primary goals of this effort toachieve short-term incapacitation without long-term injury are being pursued throughexperimental and computational studies. This task employs computational modeling, andimplements a large-scale model of electrical conduction in the body together with the preexisting neurobiology work of J. Patrick Reilly and others to assess the excitation of the nervoussystem due to human electro-muscular incapacitation HEMI devices.
