Abstract:
Background or ProblemIssue Despite accounting for 50 of an operating rooms budget, the Military Health System MHS lacks consistent processes to track surgical supply expenses accrued during surgery. Surgeons have control over 80 of surgical supply costs but correctlyestimate pricing for routinely used items on less than 10 of occasions. The absence of benchmarks creates a gap in cost transparency required to assess financial performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
