Abstract:
The structure of the armed forces is based on the DOD Total Force Policy, which recognizes that all elements of the structuresuch as activemilitary personnel, reservists, civilian employees, defense contractors, and host nation military and civilian personnelcontribute to nationaldefense. Civilian employees have been associated with the military establishment since the American Revolution, and today remain asignificant part of DOD.
