Abstract:

This paper is primarily an historical account of the creation and evolution of the United States Marine Corps Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team FAST Program from its genesis in 1987 until 2015. The FAST program is very relevant in todays operational environment hence, serious consideration should be directed towards modifying the current structure, command relationships, and mission parameters of the FAST platoons and companies to maximize their effectiveness and employability. The history of the Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team FAST program, as well as current operational capability and contemporary challenges during employment, must be understood in order to grasp their continued operational relevance alongside contemporary crisis and rapid response forces.
