Abstract:
The Civil Reserve Air Fleet CRAF consists of commercial aircraft committed to support the Department of Defense DOD in a national crisis orwar. In such an emergency, CRAF is expected to transport 95 percent ofthe troops and 27 percent of the cargo that would be transported by air.Because of the extent of reliance to be placed on CRAF in the event of anational emergency, GAO reviewed the program to assess the ability ofCRAF to respond to such an emergency.
