Abstract:

Federal agencies with large automotive fleets are not achieving maximum recovery of about18 million gallons of used lubricating oil each year, and some disposal practices damage the environment. It would be helpful to designate one Federal agency to provide leadership in managing used oil. Meanwhile, he Department of Defense--the largest oil user--could take several actions to improve oil recycling by the military services.
