We appreciate the opportunity to testify today on the Department of Defenses DOD logistics capabilities and shortfalls. You asked us to lookat inventory issues as they relate to DODs operations and readiness. My testimony today will focus on the results of our recent work pertaining to 1 the status of DODs secondary inventory,12 difficulties one military service continues to have in obtaining repair parts to keep its combataircraft mission capable, 3 the adequacy of DODs controls over inventory items in transit, 4 implementation of DODs efforts to have greatervisibility over its logistical assets through its Total Asset Visibility Program, and 5 the continuing need to apply best private sector managementpractices to Defense inventory management.
