Abstract:
The objective of these studies is to determine the role of human herpesviruses and antiherpes virus immunity in the development of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. The first aim of the study is to collect peripheral blood and broncholalveolar lavage fluid from patients with IPF or other ILDs undergoing clinical bronchoscopy, quantify viral load and perform immunophenotyping of circulating and BAL immune cells. The second aim is to use a model of genetic risk for IPF to investigate the mechanisms of herpesvirus-driven experimental fibrosis.
