Abstract:

A strength of the ANG is that Airmen remain with a single unit for most, if not all, of their careers enabling them to become experts in their field and mission design series. This strength can also be a weakness as this stability has led to stagnation and a focus on short-term solutions to long-term logistical problems. Units are aware of the known deficiencies and although some of these factors are outside of the units control, adjustments are required if the ANG is to succeed in completing its duel missions. Focusing on the ANGs twelve F-16 CD units, the purpose of this GRP is to examine the relationship between multiple variables within maintenance and the supply chain and their impacts to the units MC rate and aircraft availability. The results of this study will provide insight and explain why the ANG should pivot from using MC rates as its benchmark of success to aircraft availability rates in conjunction with predetermined MEL and AAT for their weapons system. The adoption of this new philosophy will enable units to strategically focus resources and improve the ANGs lethality.
