Abstract:

Major Goals 1 Synthesize a new series of ureathiourea functionalized receptors containing variable dimensions, sizes, and spacers. 2 Investigate molecular interactions of the proposed receptors with selected anions uranate, perchlorate, tungstate, sulfate, nitrate, cyanide, iodide and fluoride using NMR, UV-Vis, fluorescence spectroscopy, and X-ray crystallography. 3 Study the liquid-liquid extraction of anions using gravimetric method, and spectroscopic analysis. 4 Calculate binding energies and electronic spectra using molecular modeling to gain a theoretical understanding of intermolecular interactions.
