Abstract:

The presidents effortless descent down Air Force Ones stairs belies a tremendous logistical operation required for every visit. These logistics take many forms, but the most expensive is airlift for the movement of specialized vehicles, equipment, and personnel for all non-local travel by the president. The volume of airlift required and the frequency of travel is a significant demand for the Air Force. This paper explores a quantitative methodology Maximal Covering Location Problem to find whether a more cost-efficient alternative exists for the current airlift-only distribution system.
