Background Extracorporeal Life Support ECLS and one of its forms Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation ECMO is a supportive life sustaining critical care capability which carries bleeding and thrombotic complications. This single center study sought to evaluate the number of such complications occurring in patients on venovenous VV or venoarterial VA ECMO with heparinas their initial anticoagulation approach, and the impact of these events on the patients course of care. We hypothesized that there was a higher rate of bleeding complications at our center, and therefore a higher rate of bleeding complications that required intervention.
