Sport Psychology for Acquisition Professionals: Application of Sport Psychology Techniques for Acquisition Professionals

This research study utilizes a literature review approach to consider whether the cognitive enhancement techniques used in sport psychology are applicable and transferable from the sport domain to the domain of Department of Defense acquisition professionals. The primary cognitive enhancement techniques used in sport psychology are goal setting, self-talk, imagery, arousal controlrelaxation, and attention controlconcentration. This study presents examples of research results from the literature for each technique. The study also summarizes cognitive enhancement techniques taught in the Armed Forces. The results of the study are that each of the cognitive enhancement techniques are applicable to the domain of acquisition professionals.
