The National Guard Youth ChalleNGe program is a residential, quasi-military program for young people ages 16 to 18 who have left high school without a diploma or who are at risk of dropping out because they do not have enough credits to graduate given their age and associated grade level. ChalleNGe participants or cadets may be referred by school counselors or other school officials, law enforcement or the juvenile justice system, or other members of the community. Programs do require, however, that young people who participate do so voluntarily, and parents or guardians must consent to this participation.
