Abstract:

Chinas precipitous rise onto the global stage challenges the international status quo and the United States interests across the globe. Chinas ascendancy concurrently increases the chance of strategic miscalculation while providing the United States with an opportunity to expand its influence. Chinas resurgence is most acute in the INDOPACOM area of responsibility. The purpose of this study is to provide insight into Xi Jinpings Chinese Dream, the Belt and Road Initiative, and Chinas use of unrestricted warfare. Therefore, the primary research question asks how does Chinas strategy in the INDOPACOM AOR inform US military strategy The underlying thesis of this study argues China uses unrestricted warfare to implement the Belt and Road Initiative as its grand strategy to achieve the Chinese Dream policy in INDOPACOM. By understanding how China uses unrestricted warfare to implement the Belt and Road Initiative, US military planners can glean vital information to develop and maintain a proactive and pragmatic military strategy to counter Chinas bid for regional hegemony.
