The Forensic Analytical Center at the U.S. Army Edgewood Chemical Biological Center ECBC now known as the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Chemical Biological Center Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD was requested to analyze samples containing ammonium nitrate using ion chromatography IC. Although screening for single anions and cations like ammonium nitrate is relatively easy, the ECBC staff decided to develop a method that screens for multiple anions and cations simultaneously. The ability to process IC samples for specific ions allows scientists to further analyze the samples for specific chemical warfare materials and targets of interest.
