Evaluating performance on spatial-related training and tasks such as search and rescue necessitates ways of measuring spatial knowledge. While most spatial assessments have straightforward implementations, directional bearings present a challenge in administration and preprocessing. In paper and pencil assessments, scoring and inputting these data are time-intensive and prone to human error. Customized computer programs mitigate the scoring and data input issue through automation but are costly to build and challenging to integrate in experiments with other assessments. Thus, a low-cost solution that automates data input and scoring, while also integrating with other assessments, was deemed valuable. In this report we discuss previous measurements of directional bearings and outline the criteria and inspiration for a solution. Next we describe detailed instructions to implement our solution that leverage functionalities using Qualtrics software. Then we discuss limitations and future directions for the directional bearings measurement tool.
