Abstract:

Rechargeable alkali-ion batteries are the dominant form of energy storage for consumer electronics today and are increasingly finding large-scale applications such as transportation and grid storage. However, the recent spate of highly publicized lithium-ion battery fires in automotive, aviation, and consumer electronics have brought to the forefront the need to develop novel materials and battery architectures that can support higher energy densities without sacrificing safety. The aim of Symposium EN06 is to promote a holistic approach to developing safer and more energy dense rechargeable alkali-ion batteries by providing a forum for technical, interdisciplinary discussions spanning the entire continuum from materials design to device engineering. The symposium covered novel materials discovery,characterization and fundamental understanding of safety, and cutting-edge battery architectures.
