Abstract:
Our systematic program of research showed that 1 hearing losses, even when slight andor clinically negligible, can adversely affect binaural two-eared processing and 2 the observed losses of precision of ITD-coding appear to support the proposition that differences in the precision of ITD-coding are more attributable to differences in hearing level than to correlated differences in age. Quantitative modeling revealed that that the degradations of binaural processing accompanying slight andor hidden loss stem principally if not, solely from noisy monaural neural inputs to a binaural comparator.
