The Defense Health Board DHB is pleased to submit its report summarizing the findings and recommendations from its independent review of Low-Volume High-Risk Surgical Procedures Surgical Volume and Its Relationship to Patient Safety and Quality of Care. On March 28, 2018, the Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs requested that the DHB develop recommendations to improve policies for managing facility surgical capabilities and surgeon proficiency. The DHB tasked its Trauma and Injury Subcommittee with conducting a review of surgical care and patient safety within the Military Health System for the Boards consideration.
