Vision is perhaps the most important of the five senses. Eye injuries necessitate serious life changes and require rigorous rehabilitation. Although eye injuries represented only 2 of nonfatal injuries incurred during World War II, they required the development of a multifaceted rehabilitation program for blinded and visually impaired service members. Of the several campuses of the U.S. armed forces and Veterans Administration program, Old Farms Convalescent Hospital was unique.
