Abstract:

The thesis aims to assess the United States antiterrorism strategy in the Sahel to help the Sahel G5 SG5 organization succeed in its goal of eradicating terrorism. Analyzing the successes and failures of the strategy, including its governance, security, economic development, and educational aspects, confirms the necessity of a comprehensive approach to effectively face the terrorism threat in that region. This thesis addresses critical issues in the framework of the international community to enhance the SG5s chances of success. Even though funding issues are a major concern, strategic cooperation with regional power Algeria will greatly enhance the SG5s chances of success. Furthermore, this thesis recommends working toward improving professional security apparatuses and increasing economic development, education, and literacy rates, factors that could bolster resistance to terrorist groups recruitment.
