This report documents the development and implementation of a density estimation methodology for quantifying blue and fin whale abundance from passive acoustic data recorded on sparse hydrophone arrays. Data from the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organisation were used, as well as recordings from Ocean Bottom Seismometers. The method relies on estimation of bearings to calling animals, as well as estimates of the source levels of the animals calls and information about how often animals call. All of these topics were addressed during the project.
