Abstract:

The objective of this project was to assess the potential of using natural environmental mineral samples to determine duration of burial since a target event on a timescale of days and weeks. The approach adopted assessed TL thermoluminescence, OSL Optically stimulated luminescence and IRSL infrared stimulated luminescencesignals, using variants of standard luminescence dating protocols. Minerals measured included quartz, potassium feldspar, plagioclase feldspar and fluorite.
