Abstract:
We observed that integrated low-dimensional structures on semiconductor detectors can steer a vertically oriented incident light-beams by almost 90 degrees, reduce surface reflection, slow down the light propagation velocity and increase photon-materials interactions. Such low-dimensional photon-trapping structures include nanoscale pillars, rods, holes, cones, funnels etc. Based on such observations, it is possible to design high speed photodetectors PDswith efficient light absorption capability while ensuring high speed performance in a number of materials.
