Abstract:

The ionomerelectrode interface governs the electrode kinetics of polymer electrolyte batteries and fuel cells. A fundamental understanding of such interfaces is required if step improvements in electrode kinetics are to be realized. Density functional theory DFT was used to correlate attenuated total reflectance spectra of ionomer membranes with polarization modulated infrared reflection absorption spectra PM-IRRAS of ionomer-electrode interfaces.
