Abstract:
When a cell receives a signal from its environment through a membrane receptor, a cascade of internal reactions is triggered which leads ultimately to its response, usually a change in its metabolism, its ability to divide, or in the expression level of a gene. Many diseases including some forms of cancer are related to some defects in these signalling pathways. Such biological systems usually feature thousands of proteins interacting in a highly concurrent way and their complexity makes modelling necessary to the development of better biocuration techniques.
