The first year of research focused on the fundamental studies and background research which can be divided into two parts, namely preparation of sensors and implementation of pattern recognition and classification of human facial expressions. For preparation of sensors, a low cost method of printing sensors using a commercial ink-jet printer was developed and tested. Different designs of the sensors were printed on PET and its sheet resistance were characterized. For the second part, the pattern recognition and classification algorithms were developed and tested using simulations and experiments.
