Our objective to disentangle the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder PTSD from Gulf War Illness GWI to understand the role that post-traumatic stress plays in the symptoms and perpetuation of GWI in female veterans. This is being accomplished by performing a secondary systems biology analysis for female subjects based on resources, methodology and results from our ongoing GWI research initiatives. We have made substantive progress towards Year 1 objectives including consolidation and evaluation of trauma scores in GWI symptoms measures, subtyping of GWI subjects based on a Davidson Trauma Score cutoff, and preliminary statistical analysis of symptom measures in subtypes compared to healthy controls supporting the hypothesis that both subgroups are distinct from controls.
