Chip-Scale Combinatorial Atomic Navigator (C-SCAN) Low Drift Nuclear Spin Gyroscope

We developed a 3He-129Xe nuclear spin gyroscope probed by 87Rb atoms. We batch fabricated gyroscope cells with a yield exceeding 85percent and achieved 129Xe T2 time of 300 sec and 3He T2 time of 3.9 hours in a 2 mm cell. We developed techniques to supress 87Rb spin-exchange relaxation, 129Xe back-polarization, and 3He dipolar magnetic field. In a 10 mm cell we achieved Angle Random Walk AFR of 0.025 deghour12, bias drift of less than 0.01 deghour, and absolute bias of less than 2.5 deghour without calibration. In a 2mm diameter anodically bonded cell we achieved ARW of 0.4 deghour12. In a 1.6 cm3 physics package with the cell, heaters, and VCSEL lasers we demonstrated operation with an ARW of 8 deghour12.
