The British led Egyptian Expeditionary Force serves as the missing link in the evolution of operational art. From the Suez Canal to Aleppo, Syria, the British connected a series of joint combined arms operations in time, space, and purpose to achieve the strategic goals of the Empire. The campaign is a template of multi-domain battle integrating regular and irregular forces across the land, air, and sea domains as well as information and public perception. This monograph analizes the campaign in Palestine through the lens of Army Design Methodology ADM to illuminate how future leaders can innovate and adapt to thrive in conditions of complexity and uncertainty. The elements of operational art and ADM explain how General Edmund Allenby was able to win a decisive campaign. For contemporary leaders, this campaign and the cognitive process used to achieve victory, is a fine example of how to lead joint, inter-organization, multinational organizations fighting through rapid military, social, and technologic change to win in a complex world.
