Abstract:
BACKGROUND Intervertebral disc IVD degeneration is a major source of lower back pain. Current treatment strategies aim to alleviate the associated symptoms and not on restoring the biological function of the intervertebral disc. PURPOSE The objective of this study is to construct an injectable scaffold in vitro as a therapeutic delivery system to improve the mechanical properties of the nucleus pulposus NP of IVD to withstand physiologic loading.
