Abstract:

This is a Small Business Innovation Research SBIR Phase I Report developed under SBIR contract for topic AF161-132 Fully AdaptiveRadar Modeling and Simulation Development. We have developed a MATLAB-based modeling and simulation M and S architecture fordistributed fully adaptive radar FAR that will enable algorithm development and testing on simulated, previously collected, and real-timestreaming data. The architecture is coded in MATLAB using an object oriented programming approach. The architecture includes a FARengine to control the operation of the perception-action cycle and software objects that determine the next set of sensing parameters obtaindata from the sensor process the data to track the target and store and display the results of the sensing and tracking processes. We havedeveloped modules that implement simulated and pre-recorded software defined radar SDR data examples, and real-time and simulateddata examples from the Cognitive Radar Engineering Workspace CREW at The Ohio State University. The FAR M and S architectureallows for transparent switching between the simulated and experimental CREW data sources, as well as between FAR algorithms thatdrive the sensing. The ability to easily interchange sensing and processing modules will allow for rapid development and testing ofcognitive radar algorithms by structuring the M and S functions to avoid duplicating effort and single point solutions. It will enablecollaboration between researchers in industry, academia, and the Air Force, as algorithms developed by different researchers can be testedand compared using consistent simulations, collected data, and laboratory conditions.
