Abstract:
The objective of this work was to optimize trust and reliance on advanced autonomous systems through deeper understanding of the inherent social interaction of human-machine teams. We explored how users of an intelligent automated decision aid may show evidence of increased trust and reliance under conditions of social cueing i.e., team building activities relative to a control condition i.e., aid capabilities emphasized only standard practice in automation training. Other objectives include using robots and creating algorithms to build emotional intelligence skills and increase engagement. This report describes the outcomes of these projects.
