Abstract:

The Military Health System MHS is one of the largest health care systems in the United States1 and provides care to approximately 9.6 million eligible beneficiaries.2 The mission of the MHS is to enhance the Department of Defenses DoDs and the Nations security by providing health care support for the full range of military operations and by sustaining the health of all those entrusted to DoDs medical care.3 To support the provision of quality care in the unique military environment, military and civilian health professionals must meet licensing and associated continuing education CE requirements. Health professionals with specialty certifications may require additional CE. In addition, military health professionals must maintain competencies in military and medical readiness skills.4,5 Thus, the MHS has an obligation to provide effective CE programs to sustain proficiency in both medical and military domains.
