Abstract:
Indias economic policies have evolved significantly since its independence in 1947. The evolution of the policies can be assessed by the unique domestic and international environment that existed during the most pivotal parts of Indias economic history. This research explores some of the most notable parts of Indias political economy and analyzes the domestic and international factors during that time. The research concludes that Indias political economy is undoubtedly influenced by both types of factors. More surprisingly, the relative weight of domestic versus international factors has been gradually shifting in the past six decades. The changing dynamic of how Indias economic policies are made is useful in understanding what shapes public policy in the worlds largest democracy, and how both Indian and international actors can best seek to impact the countrys economic policies.
