Abstract:
This report addresses a series of simulations of turbulent, multi-species flow fields surrounding a sphere. The purpose of these simulations is to validate our capability for using the Large Eddy Simulation with LInear Eddy Modeling in 3 Dimensions LESLIE3D multiphase physics computer program. A high Reynolds number flow field is computed at Mach 2.0, and a low Reynolds number flow field is calculated at Mach 0.1. The former flow field is strongly shocked while the latter flow field is shock wave free. In each test calculation, the physics of the flow field is examined, and the drag coefficients are calculated viapost-processing for comparison with data. At the same time, drag post-processor algorithms are validated.
