Broadband Scattering from Sand and Sand/Mud Sediments with Extensive Environmental Characterization

Mid-to-high frequency acoustic scattering was measured along with environmental characterization from two major field experiments The Target and Reverberation Experiment in 2013 TREX13 and the St. Andrews Bay Experiment in 2014. The dominant scattering mechanisms for high frequencies at the TREX13 site include both the high shell content at the site and seafloor roughness. Measurements indicate that both mechanisms show significant spatial variability. The BayEx14 site consisted of a mud layer over a muddy sand basement.
