Abstract:

Computational efficiency discussions are necessary for understanding how to build an energy efficient cortical structure, but not sufficient because we need to consider the resulting power dissipation for communication. Neurobiological systems are power and energy constrained in their communication. Any cortical architecture must explicitly incorporate these effects to achieve the necessary power efficiency gains, although most systems built to date do not consider these issues as primary constraints.
